Key FeaturesNew Civic Hybrid
Honda’s e:HEV full hybrid technology can run silently on pure electric power, delivering up to 315 Nm of torque – which a mild hybrid cannot do.
You’ll never have to plug in the new Civic e:HEV as the full hybrid powertrain does not need a mains electricity supply and, in addition, captures energy lost while braking and returns it to the hybrid battery.
The Civic has a range of up to 521 miles* in real-world driving and achieves CO2 emissions as low as 89g/km* without sacrificing comfort or performance.
Honda is well-known for its reliability and has a wealth of experience and knowledge of hybrid engine technology. Even so, we offer a 5 year/90,000 miles warranty* on each of our hybrid batteries.
What the Press Say…
The most significant development can be found under its bonnet, where you’ll find a self-charging 2.0-litre petrol hybrid engine. That puts the Civic right up against the hybrid-only Toyota Corolla as its most direct rival.
Engine wise, things are kept nice and simple because the Honda Civic has only one option: the e: HEV hybrid, which uses 181bhp to sprint from 0-62mph in 7.8sec to 8.1sec depending on which trim you choose. That makes its performance figures a close match for the most powerful Toyota Corolla.
As far as using the features goes, we like the fact that the Civic has physical air-con controls, which are far easier to use while driving than the touch-sensitive buttons in the Seat Leon and Volkswagen Golf. They’re even back-lit at night – which, annoyingly, the Leon and Golf's aren't.
The sprint to 62mph takes a more than respectable 7.9sec, matching the Toyota Corolla 2.0 VVT-i Hybrid.
It’s 35mm longer overall so passengers enjoy extra legroom, and it is indeed roomier out back than a Focus or a Golf.
The handover from full electric is seamless, and the brakes aren’t as corrupted by regen demands as, say, a Toyota Corolla.
